Torpedoboot Typ 23 E-3BBuilt by F. Schichau in Elbing, the Type 1939 Torpedoboote performed extremely well at sea. They were highly manoeuvrable, even in bad weather and especially when turning, despite a tendency to take on spray in strong winds. Well armed and robust, their general appearance differed only slightly from one ship to another, essentially as regards weapons systems or the aerials for the detection systems and depending on their period.

Powered by the equally famous Rolls Royce Merlin V12

who are moving carefully through the German rear areas

but was later relegated to an aerial refuelling role when it was no longer deemed effective as a strategic bomber
